In India, discover the bustling streets of Delhi, the majestic Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, the tranquil desert of Osian, and the sacred city of Pushkar. Admire Jaipur's Amber Fort, encounter wildlife at Ranthambore National Park, and marvel at the Taj Mahal in Agra. Transitioning to Sri Lanka, visit the coastal town of Negombo, climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, explore Kandy’s Temple of the Tooth, and journey through tea plantations to Ella. Experience the wildlife of Udawalawe National Park, relax on Tallala’s beaches, enjoy a surf lesson in Weligama, and connect with local culture at a Buddhist monastery in Mirissa.
Itinerary
Day 1
Delhi
Upon arrival in Delhi, you will be greeted and transferred to our hotel, where you will have the rest of the day at leisure or the option to explore the city. Later, in the evening, we will gather as a group for a welcome dinner at 7 PM.
Please note: This tour is designed for younger travellers looking to meet like-minded people. The average age on this tour is around 25 - 35, and in most cases we are unfortunately unable to take any travellers over the age of 49. Day 2
Exploring Delhi
Today, we'll dive into the vibrant sights, sounds, and aromas of Delhi. Accompanied by our local guide, we'll explore the streets of Chawri Bazaar, witnessing how traditional life has remained largely unchanged. We'll also have the opportunity to savour India's renowned cuisine by trying local delicacies like chaat or lassi.
In the afternoon, we'll visit the magnificent red-marbled Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, and gain insights into the important role of religion in this nation of over a billion people. To end our city tour, we will also visit Raj Ghat, a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, who was cremated here. We also take in a local Sikh temple.
Day 3
Delhi to Jodhpur
Delhi - Jodhpur. This morning, we'll depart Delhi and head to the airport for our included flight to Jodhpur, the 700-year-old 'blue city' in the desert. We'll explore the intricate maze of blue architecture with the help of our guide. As we wander through the medieval streets and vibrant bazaars, we'll conclude the day with a dazzling sunset and a local dinner together. Let's see who can handle the spice!
Day 4
Mehrangarh Fort & Bishnoi Village
Rising majestically above the Jodhpur skyline, the Mehrangarh Fort is perched on a rocky hill, providing stunning views of the city and the surrounding desert plains. Today, we will explore this extraordinary site, uncovering its rich history and taking in the magnificent scenery. In the afternoon, we'll journey to the traditional villages of the welcoming Bishnoi community to experience their distinctive way of life. We spend a second night in Jodhpur.
Day 5
Osian Desert Camp
Jodhpur - Osian. We are leaving Jodhpur behind and venturing into the heart of the Thar Desert to our desert camp. We’ll embark on a jeep safari at sunset, exploring the rippling sand dunes. We’ll also enjoy unique views from Savitri Devi temple. As night descends, we’ll head back to camp to experience genuine Rajasthani warmth and hospitality. Over dinner, we will share stories while admiring the starlit sky before retiring for the night in traditional Swiss tents.
Day 6
Transfer to Pushkar
Osian - Pushkar. Next, we'll visit Pushkar, one of India's holiest cities. As we explore this city, which is centered around a peaceful lake, we'll discover why Pushkar is so meaningful to Hindu pilgrims who strive to visit at least once in their lifetime. With its lively markets and delicious cuisine, Pushkar is a distinctive treasure in Rajasthan.
Day 7
Sunrise Yoga & Jaipur
Pushkar - Jaipur. Known as the birthplace of yoga, Pushkar offers an ideal setting to reconnect with your inner yogi. This morning, we'll rise at sunrise for an included yoga session, embracing both physical and mental serenity.
Later, after breakfast, we'll head to Jaipur, known as the 'Pink City'. We plan to visit a local family for dinner this evening. But here's the exciting part - we'll be cooking too! We'll embrace our culinary instincts and prepare some delicious dishes, transforming into chefs in no time.
Day 8
Exploring Jaipur
First up today, we'll visit Hawa Mahal for that essential symmetrical photo opportunity. Next, we're off to the captivating Amber Fort in Rajasthan. To save our energy, we'll take a jeep ride up to the hilltop. Within its weathered walls lies a breathtaking oasis of beautifully decorated chambers and intricate artwork, as well as several layers and courtyards to explore.
Back in Jaipur, we'll explore Jantar Mantar, Jaipur’s historic observatory, which, despite being nearly two centuries old, still features remarkably advanced instruments.
Day 9
Ranthambore Fort
Jaipur - Ranthambore National Park. Say goodbye to the hustle and bustle of rickshaws and scooters as we head toward the outskirts of one of India's largest and most renowned national parks. After settling into our accommodation, it's time to unwind. But don't relax too much, because later we'll be channelling our inner Indiana Jones and starting a jungle expedition to discover the secrets of Ranthambore Fort.
Day 10
Tiger Safari
We're starting the day with an early morning sunrise safari, aiming to spot wild Bengal tigers, which live in great numbers in the prey-rich forests of Ranthambore National Park. The park boasts a diverse array of wildlife, including playful monkeys, lurking crocodiles, wild boars, deer, peacocks, and even elusive leopards, guaranteeing an exciting safari experience. After the safari, you can explore the local area or relax and recharge by the pool.
Day 11
Abhaneri Step Well, Agra & Baby Taj
Ranthambore National Park - Abhaneri - Agra. Departing Ranthambore, our first stop will be the Abhaneri Stepwell, an incredible structure built over a thousand years ago to conserve water and provide relief from the intense heat. We'll pause to take some photos before continuing our journey to the captivating city of Agra, home to the legendary Taj Mahal. We're saving India's main attraction for tomorrow, but this afternoon we'll visit the stunning tomb of I’timad-ud-Daulah, affectionately referred to as the Baby Taj.
Day 12
Taj Mahal at Sunrise
Agra - Delhi. Today is the day you've been waiting for! Rise early to witness the breathtaking sunrise casting a golden glow over the iconic Taj Mahal. As one of the Seven New Wonders of the World, and the world's greatest ever monument to love, our local guide will share fascinating stories about the Taj's rich history and reveal its hidden secrets while leading us to the most photogenic spots.
With our minds buzzing and our cameras filled, we'll head back to the hotel for breakfast before starting our journey back to Delhi. Tonight, we'll celebrate our unforgettable adventure with a final Indian feast, some drinks, and maybe a little Bollywood dancing to conclude the India Portion of our trip..
Day 13
Hello Sri Lanka
Delhi - Colombo (Sri Lanka) - Negombo. Today, we will make our way to the airport in Delhi for our included flight to Sri Lanka. Upon arrival in Colombo, you will be met and transferred to our beachfront accommodation in Negombo. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to explore Negombo or relax.
Please note: Some passenger will be ending their tour in India on this day and will not be proceeding to the airport for the flight to Sri Lanka.
Day 14
Negombo by Tuk Tuk
Negombo - Sigiriya. After breakfast today, we will set off to explore the charming beachside town of Negombo by tuk-tuk, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of this coastal gem. We'll make our way to the bustling local fish market, where the air is filled with the aroma of the sea and the lively chatter of vendors showcasing their fresh catches.
Later, we’ll journey to Sigiriya, home to the iconic Lion Rock fortress, which we'll be exploring tomorrow.
Day 15
Sirigiya Rock Fortress & Cooking Demonstration
We began our day with stunning views of Sigiriya Rock Fortress, we will be climbing the neighbouring towering rock to enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the fortress and the surrounding greenery.
Next, we travel by rustic local transport to a rural village. Welcomed by the locals, we watch a cooking demonstration by village women, learning how simple ingredients can be turned into mouth-watering dishes. After lunch, we'll head back to Sigiriya for the evening.
Day 16
Sigiriya to Kandy
Sigiriya - Kandy. Today, we’ll travel south, passing through the Spice Gardens to Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka, nestled in the lush, misty hills. Once we arrive, we’ll visit the remarkable Temple of the Tooth, a revered site known for its deep spiritual significance and stunning architecture.
As the day ends, you can enjoy dinner and drinks at one of the local restaurants.
Day 17
Tea Production & Scenic Train
Kandy - Ella. After breakfast, we’ll journey further south through the stunning rolling hills of Sri Lanka’s tea plantations. Along the way, we’ll stop to learn the art of tea picking and brewing from local experts, immersing ourselves in the beauty and heritage of this iconic export.
Afterward, we’ll board the world’s most scenic train to Ella, gliding through misty mountains, lush tea plantations, and cascading waterfalls. The journey offers breathtaking views at every turn, immersing us in Sri Lanka’s stunning natural beauty. Upon arrival, we'll go into town for dinner and an evening out!
Day 18
Hike to Little Adam's Peak & Leisure
This morning, we’ll hike up to Little Adam’s Peak, where we’ll be rewarded with stunning views. From the summit, we’ll enjoy sweeping panoramas of tea plantations, rolling hills, valleys, and distant mountain ranges. After our hike, you will have the remainder of the day at your leisure to enjoy a local massage, enjoy some shopping or relax.
Day 19
Nine Arches Bridge & Udawalawe National Park
Ella - Udawalawe National Park. This morning, we’ll set off to explore the famous Nine Arches Bridge, which spans impressively across a lush, green valley. After taking in the views and the serenity of the area, we’ll continue our journey south to Udawalawe National Park.
Day 20
Sunrise Safari & Tallala
Udawalawe National Park - Tallala. Today, we’ll rise early to catch the sunrise and set off by jeep into Udawalawe National Park. As we journey through the park, we’ll have the chance to observe herds of wild, free-roaming elephants, crocodiles, and a range of birdlife.
Afterwards, we’ll make our way to the tranquil beachside haven of Hiriketiya for a relaxing afternoon, before heading to our beachfront eco-retreat in the beautiful village of Tallala. Here, we’ll unwind and end the day watching the sunset, enjoying a barbecue as the colours of the sky change over the horizon.
Day 21
Tallala at Leisure
Today is at leisure to enjoy as you please. You can relax on the beach, join a complimentary yoga session, relax with a book by the pool, indulge in an Ayurvedic massage, or simply rest under a palm tree while soaking up the charm of one of the south's hidden beaches.
Day 22
Surfing Lesson & Transfer to Mirissa
Tallala - Mirissa. This morning, we’ll continue our journey along the stunning coastline, stopping at the laid-back and welcoming Weligama Beach for a private surf lesson. The friendly instructors and gentle waves make it the perfect spot to embrace the thrill of the ocean.
Afterward, we’ll head to Mirissa and check into our beautiful beachfront accommodation, where we can relax and soak up the coastal vibes. Later, we’ll visit the iconic Coconut Tree Hill, taking in its breathtaking views of the turquoise waters and swaying palms.
Day 23
Buddhist Monastery Exploration
Today, we’ll visit a Buddhist Monastery, where we’ll have the special opportunity to engage in a cultural exchange with the monk students who reside there. It’s a chance to gain a unique insight into their daily lives and the traditions of Buddhist teachings, leaving us with a deeper appreciation of this peaceful way of life.
This evening, to celebrate our final night together, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner on the beach.
Day 24
Mirissa
Our tour comes to an end today. You can depart this morning, making your own way to the airport or your next destination. Although there is no departure transfer included, your tour leader will be available to help you plan your onward travel and is on hand to assist you. Safe travels!
